Leah W.
In the summer of 2023, I took up a position as a camp counsellor, where I worked diligently for a span of six weeks. My responsibilities in this role involved looking after the welfare and recreation of children who hailed from all around, with ages ranging between 7 to 16 years old. My personal character and professional interest align well with roles that involve active engagement and an opportunity to help others. I am an individual who thrives on a high-energy environment and relishes the chance to immerse myself in a variety of activities that cater to different age groups, an aptitude that served me well in my role as a camp counsellor. On a personal note, being the oldest of six siblings in my family has equipped me with an innate sense of responsibility and understanding toward young children. With an age gap of 16 years between me and my youngest sibling, I have been exposed to childcare from an early age. As a result, I've acquired valuable insights and experience in dealing with children of various ages and handling responsibilities that naturally come with it. In addition to the experience I have gleaned from my own family setting, I've also spent considerable time volunteering at my local Brownies. This voluntary experience further enhanced my skills in engaging with children, where my aim was not just to oversee but also to enrich their time under my supervision by creating enjoyable and educational activities for them. This extensive experience, along with my inherent enthusiasm and passion for working with children, has equipped me with a unique understanding of childcare, and my time as a camp counsellor was a testament to that fact.
