Poppy T.
Once I finished and achieved my a level equivalents at college I applied to be a teaching assistant in a school. (BETC double applied science and single health and social care) I quickly realised that I had a passion for caring for children with special educational needs. I finished my first half term and was offered the position to become a lead in the schools new SEND classroom which I happily took. I’ve done this for just under two years now and loved every second. I’m off to university next year to study education studies and SENDI. I am level 4 makaton trained, trained in pecs as well as trained by the autism social communication team. I look after both verbal and non verbal children with high and low support needs.
I started babysitting at 16 but not regularly, my first baby was 3 months old but I’ve looked after children up to 11 years old. When I turned 18 I started to look after more children on a more regular basis. I still do now and often it will be the same children and I absolutely love to look after the same children to make that special bond.
