Whilst this CV isn’t presented in a ‘traditional’ format, it presents an over view of my capabilities. In an interview I would certainly be able to flesh out my abilities and character.
I left school (Oldham Hulme Grammar School) in 1978 and worked for my father in his upholstery business until he left 2 years later due to ill health. I then took over the business and have been self-employed since.
I have designed and manufactured an assortment of cushions and soft furnishings including an aid for epilepsy sufferers, the Breathe-zy pillow.
Being an owner/manager of my own business I have employed hundreds of people over the years, the most being 65 staff at one particular time. Managing a team has taught me leadership, communication and delegation skills and I promoted an ethos that my staff worked WITH me, not FOR me. My approach fostered goodwill and a ‘can do’ attitude which yielded far better relations and results than some who adopt a dictatorial style.
My strengths are that I’m honest, punctual, and reliable – I can’t ever recall missing work through sickness and I’m a good communicator. On many occasions I’ve had to manage by ‘fire-fighting’. Presented with a problem I meet it head on and can resolve it to everyone’s satisfaction. This sometimes means that I have to be adaptable, which I have no problem with.
