I occasionally care for my mother, who has multiple health problems, but as I am one of three siblings, the caregiving responsibilities do not fully fall on me. Previously, I worked as a support worker for vulnerable adults with severe learning disabilities, brain damage, and mental health issues. My duties included bathing, dressing, cooking and feeding the clients as well as performing all household cleaning tasks. Mostly, my shifts lasted for 24 hours at a stretch. I would also take clients on outings to places such as the cinema, to lunch/dinner, the deep sea world, and bowling. I even had the opportunity to accompany them on a 7-day holiday trip, which was an incredible experience. Through these shared experiences, I fostered strong relationships with my service users and their families. I have 21 years of cleaning experience, 8 years of caregiving experience, and also attained a bit of experience in retail. Feel free to ask me absolutely anything. I have covered various cleaning roles, from student accommodations, farm houses, end of tenancy, to luxury mansions. Some duties I have covered throughout the years are: deep cleans, regular cleans, bed changing, bin changing, oven cleaning, bathroom with and without mould and mildew, window cleaning, all general housework duties ie, dusting, hoovering/mopping, factory cleaning ie, all office cleaning, factory floor buffing and lots more. In addition, technology has lent its immense potential to various sectors of the industry, resulting in major improvements in their operation and efficiency. It has mitigated the scope of human error in tasks and has significantly increased the overall productivity and output of these sectors, bringing about positive changes to the economy as a whole. But, as we explore further into these advancements, it comes to our attention that everything is not sunny on the technology front. Rapid technological developments have unfortunately resulted in a surge of unemployment as machines and automation technologies replace human labor across many industries. This not only affects the job market, but also reveals the harsh reality of an ever-evolving workplace. Another downside to the rapid advancement of technology is the introduction, and subsequent rise, of new cybersecurity threats. These involve risks and dangers associated with digital information and security that are often very difficult to manage and keep at bay, causing serious concerns worldwide. A more subtle but still very significant negative consequence of this rocket-speed technological development is the widening of the digital divide. While a minority of high-tech companies’ directors and shareholders grow wealthier due to technological innovations, a vast majority of people, especially in low-income brackets or in developing countries, are left behind. This digital divide essentially creates a gulf between those who have access to technology and those who do not, increasingly marginalizing the latter group.
